How to Check and Manage Your Credit Score for Free
People also incorrectly assume that checking your credit score lowers it—this is partly true. When applying for a loan or another open line of credit, creditors check your score to see if you are a viable candidate. This can penalize you and impact your score. Inquires made by you are not shown to creditors and will not lower your score.
In fact, it’s essential to know what your score is, because it can change at any time, and it impacts so many different areas of your life. Not paying your bills or making delinquent payments lowers your score and makes you undesirable to credit companies and advertisers. By consistently managing your score, you take the control back from creditors by knowing exactly how much you qualify for when it’s time to take out a loan or open a new line of credit.
Many companies have figured out ways to charge consumers for reporting on their credit scores. But, there is no reason to pay for this service as everyone has a right to this information, free of charge.
Arnold Schwarzenegger takes a trip out in his green car
In 2006 he gave up six of his seven Hummers, thought to be worth around a million dollars, in a bid to work towards saving the environment.
He kept just one of the them, which he then converted to run as a hybrid vehicle.
'They are hydrogen engines and bio-fuel engines and one is being changed into an electrical engine,' Schwarzenegger noted to The Telegraph about his former fleet of green-friendly vehicles on a visit earlier this year with the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
Kitson calls for boycott of Today
LA boutique Kitson has called for a boycott of the Today show after a co-host told viewers not to shop there any longer.
The store came under fire in August for selling T-shirts emblazoned with the names of the prescription drugs Adderall, Vicodin and Xanax, merchandise which Tamron Hall called 'irresponsible' in a Today show segment, adding: 'People should probably not shop there until they get that out.'
In a post on the company Facebook, Kitson has accused Ms Hall of 'judging the merchandise without due diligence' and '[practicing] irresponsible journalism by voicing a negative, personal opinion regarding our business', asking that its customers 'seek an alternative' to the morning show.
Interview with Bill Gates
Bill Gates describes himself as a technocrat. But he does not believe that technology will save the world. Or, to be more precise, he does not believe it can solve a tangle of entrenched and interrelated problems that afflict humanity’s most vulnerable: the spread of diseases in the developing world and the poverty, lack of opportunity and despair they engender. “I certainly love the IT thing,” he says. “But when we want to improve lives, you’ve got to deal with more basic things like child survival, child nutrition.”
These days, it seems that every West Coast billionaire has a vision for how technology can make the world a better place. A central part of this new consensus is that the internet is an inevitable force for social and economic improvement; that connectivity is a social good in itself. It was a view that recently led Mark Zuckerberg to outline a plan for getting the world’s unconnected 5 billion people online, an effort the Facebook boss called “one of the greatest challenges of our generation”. But asked whether giving the planet an internet connection is more important than finding a vaccination for malaria, the co-founder of Microsoft and world’s second-richest man does not hide his irritation: “As a priority? It’s a joke.”
Then, slipping back into the sarcasm that often breaks through when he is at his most engaged, he adds: “Take this malaria vaccine, [this] weird thing that I’m thinking of. Hmm, which is more important, connectivity or malaria vaccine? If you think connectivity is the key thing, that’s great. I don’t.”
Theo Walcott to join Monaco
Someone will get the millionaire a free seat.
Paris St-Germain, there are no words, want to spend £35m on Juan Mata. Chelsea boss José Mourinho is going to scupper the plan, perhaps out of spite, perhaps he's in a low-quality mood. Perhaps he's renounced capitalism!
Iago Aspas wants out of Liverpool. No idea where he's off to yet, but his agent Roderigo is on the case.
Manchester United are looking at St Etienne left-back Faouzi Ghoulam. Sunderland striker Connor Wickham is on his way toSheffield Wednesday. And some British people can't afford to heat their food. Aren't we ashamed? Yes, we're ashamed. The Rumour Mill is ashamed. Click on to one of these other pages, will you, we can't bear you looking at us any more.
Deal and only deal
Ferguson led United for 26 years before retiring this summer and being replaced by David Moyes. He previously announced his intention to stand down in 2002 and although Ferguson later reversed that decision, Eriksson claims he was approached to replace the Scot and accepted a deal.
In an extract from the book, reproduced in the Mail on Sunday, Eriksson wrote: "I knew it would be tricky. I had a contract with England until the 2006 World Cup and I would be severely criticised if I broke that contract.
"But this was an opportunity to manage Manchester United. A contract was signed – I was United's new manager."
The 2006 tournament itself gave rise to further issues as Eriksson selected Rooney, who had been battling a broken metatarsal in the weeks leading up to the squad announcement.
CR 7
The €100m Wales winger followed up Wednesday's two goals and two assists in the 7-3 win at home to Sevilla when he set up Ronaldo and Benzema with two excellent crosses.
However, Carlo Ancelotti's expensively-assembled side were unable to control the match against their lowly city neighbours and were left reeling when Jonathan Viera struck twice from the spot in three minutes after fouls by Pepe and Marcelo.
A valiant Rayo came close to an equaliser several times and Real goalkeeper Diego López saved his team when he tipped an Alberto Bueno shot onto the post in the 65th minute.
Real's defensive failings will concern Ancelotti but the win trimmed the gap to second-placed Atlético Madrid to two points ahead of Atlético's game at home to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Unbeaten champions Barcelona are top with 34 points from 12 matches after their 1-0 win at home to Espanyol in Friday's Catalan derby, with Atlético on 30 and Real on 28.
In the earlier kickoff, Real Sociedad showed off their attacking prowess ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match against visitors Manchester United when the Basque club won 5-0 at home to 10-man Osasuna to climb to seventh.
De Niro and his movies
Next week sees the US release of Last Vegas, with Bob as one of four oldsters having one final bash together in Vegas. I love that movies are finally being made specifically for the ageing boomer demographic, but must they be prematurely senile as well? This one looks like Red meets The Bucket List. Christmas Day will bring us Grudge Match, co-starring Sylvester Stallone. The pitch for this one was obviously Rocky meets Raging Bull, so we have reached, in the De Niro oeuvre, the equivalent of Alien Vs Predator. And you thought rock bottom was The Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle?
Now we have The Family. Robert De Niro in a Luc Besson movie – that about says it all. Cartoonish, incoherent, under- and over-written in equal measure, visually grimy and tonally all over the place… Well, I admit these things don't bother me so much when it's Jason Statham upfront, but De Niro? Here, he's a painted-by-numbers mafioso under US witness protection safekeeping in Normandy, inexplicably. Trying to remain inconspicuous, the family members solve every problem, from bullies at school to snooty Gallic shopkeepers, with maximum violence and minimum plausibility. The script sounds like it was translated from French to English by the Japanese guy who writes hi-fi installation manuals. By the time Bob's old mafia enemies finally track him down, you're asleep.
There are 30-year-olds alive today who think De Niro's first great performance was Al Capone in The Untouchables. I was lucky enough to have watched De Niro emerge as a truly new and incendiary kind of movie actor as it happened. The unparalleled 1973-83 Scorsese partnership, The Godfather II, Bang The Drum Slowly, The Deer Hunter, True Confessions, Once Upon A Time In America; heaven, it was. And I do not know what happened.
Chelsa and Muhurinjo
Chelsea are ready to make a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.
The Daily Mail says Jose Mourinho recognises that Chelsea are lacking up front, although he will not admit loaning out both Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses for the season was a mistake.
A £7 million offer is being prepared for Lewandowski ahead of the January market.
Despite claims of a pre-contract with Bayern Munich, it's understood that Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is not entirely sold on the idea of integrating the robust Poland striker into his team
Like always
Barcelona currently sit top of La Liga, with 25 points from nine matches, one more than second placed Atletico Madrid and three clear of tonight's visitors Real. Considering how rarely both teams drop points, one gets the feeling this is a hugely significant moment in Real's league campaign, even though less than a quarter of the season has elapsed.
For Barcelona, Jordi Alba remains sidelined with injury, which means Adriano is likely to start at left-back, while One of Carles Puyol or Javier Mascherano will start alongside Gerard Pique in the centre of defence. Xabi Alonso will be missing from the Real Madrid ranks, while Gareth Bale will probably make just his second start for Real Madrid following his low-key summer move from Tottenham Hotspur.
